The “Giving Tree”
November 27th – December 15th
The “Giving Tree” is a beautiful holiday tradition that we celebrate at Kinder Works. Each year we decorate a tree with paper ornaments; each ornament bears the name and age of a local needy child. Your child can choose one of these ornaments and become a “Secret Santa” for that child.
Visit our “Giving Tree” to choose an ornament with your child early in December. Please return your gift in a gift bag, with the ornament as its tag, by placing it under the tree on or before December 15th.
Watching your child thoughtfully pick out a gift for a child in need will warm your heart!
Our December Theme:
The Polar Express
All aboard! The Polar Express is stopping at the Kinder Works Station this year! It’s going to take us around the world, to see how the Winter Holidays are celebrated in other countries!
First stop: France! What are the children doing there at this time of year? Shoes wait in front of the fireplace to be filled with treats, candles are lighted in the windows of the city, and mmm… do you smell la Buche de Noel and la Galette des Rois baking?
..But we must get back aboard the train for our next destination: Russia! There, the big Winter celebration is the New Year. That’s when ‘Grandfather Frost’ brings presents to children. He is always accompanied by his Grand-daughter. On New Year’s Eve, children hold hands, make a circle around the Christmas tree and call for these visitors. When they appear, the star and other lights on the tree light up!
…Back on the train for America, we will learn about Hanukkah, a different festival of light celebrated by Jewish communities all over the world. Here at home, we’ll bring out the traditions of the elf on the shelf, carols, candy canes, Christmas trees, and more. Our own Kinder Works classmates can introduce us to multi-cultural traditions as they tell how they celebrate the holidays at home. Kinder Works celebrates with two annual traditions at this time of year: The Giving Tree, and Santa visits!

Hurricane Relief… because being kinder works.
Our Hurricane Relief efforts have been met with generous donations! Thank you so much!
Some people have asked if we would accept diapers and wipes (in lieu of money to buy the same) and the answer is YES!
We are ending collections on Friday, November 17th, so if you would like to make a last-minute donation, please do so on or before Friday (see PDF below).
Thank you so much for your generosity!
Pow-Wows: a “Circle of Friends”
Monday & Tuesday, November 20th & 21st
We celebrate the Great Spirit of Friendship at our annual “Circle of Friends” Pow-Wows, to celebrate multi-cultural awareness, acceptance of diversity, as well as giving and gratitude. The children don their own creative costumes (feather headdresses, “leather vests,” etc.) and chant and sing together before sharing a friendship snack.
All Preschool and Kindergarten classes gather together in the Gym on Monday, 11/20 at 10:30AM & Tuesday 11/21 at 10:30AM. All Kinder Works children and their parents are welcome to attend.
SEL (“EQ”) Show & Tell
Thursday & Friday, November 16th & 17th
“Giving and Gratitude”
November is the season of “Giving & Gratitude,” and in that spirit, our EQ Show & Tell will focus on feeling grateful and expressing our gratitude.
When you receive your paper fruit or vegetable, please talk about this with your little one, and then write something for which your child is grateful right on the paper. We will make a beautiful school-wide cornucopia!
Also, please help your child look at the different ways that he or she shows appreciation… maybe with words, hugs and smiles, pictures or ‘notes,’ or even by trying to ‘return the favor’ and pay kindness forward! We will discuss this during our Show and Tell.
November 6th – 17th
November’s EQ project is about sharing with those who are less fortunate than ourselves. At this time each year, we provide complete Thanksgiving Dinners for local needy families with children!
Our Kinder Works children and families are invited to participate in this Thanksgiving food drive. Look for donation baskets at arrival and dismissal times. Contributions will be accepted through November 17th. Listed below are some suggestions for your contributions:
~ Gift Card for a turkey
~ Bags/boxes of potatoes
~ Stuffing (boxes)
~ Non-perishable desserts
~ Non-perishable vegetables
~ Gravy (cans)
~ Non-perishable fruits (cans/dried)
~ Cranberry sauce (canned)
In addition, each class will make a festive centerpiece to add to the baskets. Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity!
