March 2019 Show & Tell

Our March  EQ Show & Tell
Thursday & Friday, March 21st & 22nd
“My Favorite Story…”

Reading and telling stories allows children to relate to others more easily, to understand another’s perspective, and also creates an emotional bond between the storyteller and the listener.  As an added bonus, reading stories also reinforces an appreciation for literacy and literature!  In conjunction with our “Happily Ever After, Tall Tales & Myth Busters” Theme, we invite every child to bring in their favorite story to share on our EQ Show & Tell days (we will not schedule parents to read on these two days).

As noted on our March calendar, we are also inviting parents (or Grandparents, Aunts, special friends) to come in to read or tell a special story to the children during their Language Arts period. You and your little one can choose a favorite story, and sign up with our Language Arts Specialist or our Director. Space is limited, and is on a first-come, first-served basis. Thank you for participating!

March 2019 Theme & Calendar

Our March Theme:
Happily Ever After, Tall Tales, & Myth Busters

Fairy tales, Fractured Fairy tales, discovering the real truth…

This month we’ll discover exciting stories of adventure that capture the imaginations of listeners and readers, each told with a purpose. While searching for the purpose, we’ll find that fairy tales have moral lessons that teach the consequences of choosing between right and wrong. Fractured fairy tales add a sense of fun and humor, providing unexpected twists to make us laugh, or to question… Tall tales feel almost believable, using exaggerations to show us they may not be all true… Myths focus on superhuman beings, told to explain a specific belief or part of nature (and we may need to apply the scientific method to sort out fact from fiction as we practice “myth-busting”)…

As we hear stories from around the world and across time, including stories that have been told by many cultures, we’ll discover their EQ lessons, and try to emulate the values celebrated in the prevailing characters. We’ll find out that we need to ask questions, do some research, even conduct experiments to find the truth. We may also compare things past and present, old and new. We’ll discover how wild our imaginations can be, and hope that they lead us to “happily ever after!”

(With St. Patrick’s Day approaching, we will take 2 days off to pay attention to Lucky the Leprechaun and his wild antics on Thursday & Friday, March 14th & 15th!)

2019 Valentine’s Day Celebrations

Valentine’s Day Celebrations
Wednesday & Thursday, February 13th & 14th

Valentine’s Day provides an “EQ” opportunity to express appreciation for the friends and family that we love. On February 13th and 14th, we will enjoy Valentine’s Day stories and songs of love, dancing with our friends, and special valentine-themed arts and crafts!

To participate in the Valentine’s Day card exchange, please send in 36 cards, signed with only your child’s name. (Please do not address cards to specific children so that your child can hand out his/her own cards. Sun Bears will be asked to address their Valentines as a homework assignment.) Please send the cards in a bag labeled with your child’s name, and give the bag to your child’s teacher. Thank you!

February 2019 Show & Tell

Our February  EQ Show & Tell
Thursday & Friday, February 7th & 8th
“Acts of Kindness”

This month’s Show & Tell is an exciting opportunity to celebrate the thoughtfulness and generosity that our Kinder Works children display each and every day!  Please share an “Act of Kindness” that you witnessed your child do either at home or elsewhere by writing it inside a heart (hearts were sent home last week in your child’s mail file).  Then, have/help your child cut-out, color, paint, and/or decorate the heart to make it “uniquely his/her own.”

We look forward to celebrating these “Acts of Kindness” during Show & Tell this month!
